State of Python jobs, Q3 2026
80,918 live postings name Python — 4.7% of the 1,709,896 postings in the index, from 7,195 employers, both measured 2026-09-12 07:35 UTC. The count is a floor: the term is matched in the title and in the posting text as the index stores it, so a posting whose source publishes neither in a readable form cannot be counted. Every number here is measured on postings read straight from eleven applicant tracking systems, and every denominator is stated.
Demand
Title search finds a fraction of the demand
A search of job titles for “Python” returns 2,884 postings. A search of the whole posting returns 84,413. Both numbers are correct and they answer different questions: the first counts roles named after the technology, the second counts employers who ask for the skill. Reports that count titles understate skill demand by about 29 times.

Where the work is
Who is hiring
How long these postings stay up
Half of the postings that carry a publication date have been live for 61 days or more, and 50.2% have been live for more than sixty days. 8.1% were published in the last seven days. The denominator is 51,349 postings; the rest come from sources whose date we cannot read into a filterable field — Workday, for one, states the age as a phrase like “Posted 10 Days Ago”.
A long-lived posting is not proof that a role is unreal. Intent is not observable from outside a company. It does mean the advertisement has been in the market for a while, which is worth weighing before spending an evening on an application.
Remote is named on 40.0% of the postings that state a work arrangement (10,741 of 26,883).
