Requisition

The internal record authorising a hire, which a public posting advertises.

A requisition is created inside an applicant tracking system when a hire is approved, usually with a budget and a hiring manager attached. The public listing is its advertisement.

One requisition may advertise several seats, which is why counting listings and counting openings give different answers.

A requisition can be frozen without the listing coming down. This is a common source of long-lived postings that are not deliberately fake.
